Outcome of KISA's 'Physical Security Integrated Platform Development' R&D project, debuted at the Korea Safety Industry Expo.
PoC at Naju headquarters imminent with KISA's full support... A paradigm shift in construction and industrial site safety management is anticipated.
EdgeDX, a company specializing in AI for physical and industrial security, announced that it has successfully demonstrated its 'Wireless (LTE) Edge Node Integrated Safety Platform,' developed in collaboration with the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), at the KISA Physical Security Integrated Platform Smart Construction Site Experience Zone during the '2025 Korea Safety Industry Expo.'
The technology unveiled is a key outcome of the four-year 'Development of a Physical Security Integrated Platform System' R&D project led by KISA, and it is a next-generation solution based on EdgeDX's proprietary wireless edge node technology. This platform seamlessly integrates Hybrid AI video analysis (Edge × Generative), IoT sensors, and access control systems using standard protocols to prevent and respond to various safety accidents that can occur on-site in real-time. Its most significant technical feature is that it processes data and performs AI analysis directly on the edge node without a separate server, minimizing communication latency. Furthermore, with LTE wireless communication, it can be easily installed anywhere with only a power source. Its 16W ultra-low-power design maximizes field applicability by enabling independent power operation using solar panels and batteries.
The demonstration was conducted based on three high-frequency risk scenarios that occur in actual industrial sites.
It detected risks in real-time when safety equipment was not worn. Even if a worker entered the site after being authenticated, the AI camera immediately recognized if they removed their safety helmet during work. On-site warning lights and speakers were instantly activated, and a specific alert, "Worker OOO, safety helmet not worn," appeared on the integrated control screen, prompting immediate action from the manager.
It also responded to a hazardous gas leak. When a critical situation like a gas leak occurred (detected by changes in oxygen concentration), the platform instantly determined whether there were workers inside the site. If workers were present, it automatically opened the doors and sent a rescue alarm for swift evacuation and rescue. Conversely, if no workers were detected, it demonstrated an intelligent response by not opening the doors to prevent secondary damage and only issuing an evacuation warning.
A demonstration for preventing caught-in accidents with hazardous equipment was also conducted. A perilous scenario was simulated where a worker's hand entered the danger zone of a press machine while it was operating. A curtain sensor detected this and immediately sent a signal to the platform. A powerful warning sound and flashing lights were activated on-site, helping the worker to recognize and avoid the danger. Notably, it displayed the operational status (on/off) of the press machine and linked it with the platform to implement a precise prevention system without malfunctions.
Building on the success of this demonstration, EdgeDX plans to deploy the solution at the construction site for the KISA headquarters extension in Naju—a project spanning 8 floors with a total area of 8,068.36 ㎡ —to validate the technology's effectiveness. CCTV-type prototypes that can be easily installed and moved will be placed on-site. In addition to existing AI video analysis, the company's proprietary Hybrid AI (Edge × Generative AI) technology will be incorporated. This technology goes beyond simple object recognition to comprehensively understand the context of video data. It will also be equipped with Sound Recognition technology to detect abnormal sounds like screams or crashes, and various IoT sensors to further enhance its ability to respond to the complex and unpredictable risk factors of a real construction site.
An official from EdgeDX stated, "This achievement was possible thanks to KISA's unwavering support and trust, which went beyond four years of R&D funding to provide an actual construction site for the proof-of-concept." The official added, "We express our deepest gratitude to KISA for their comprehensive support and will repay them with our technological prowess through a successful field validation, contributing to raising the level of industrial safety in the country." Based on this partnership, EdgeDX is actively pursuing the commercialization of a 'Multi-modal Generative AI-based Multi-channel On-device Safety Monitoring System' through KISA's '2025 AI Security Promising Company Fostering Support Program.' This program is managed overall by DARAE STRATEGY & BUSINESS, an institution specializing in technology commercialization.
